Living healthy means living in balance.

Our Conversations 4 U group met the other day to explore the Yin & Yang of being female.  What we discovered through our conversation is that we all have feminine (yin) and masculine (yang) sides to ourselves and that these energies ebb and flow in a natural rhythm. When we deny and suppress our feminine energies, and push our masculine energy to dominate, we can exhaust ourselves. Conversely, when we deny our masculine side and allow the feminine to dominate, we lose the drive to achieve and accomplish things.

Yin: Feminine Energy

Feminine energy can be thought of in terms of the following characteristics:

  • Allowing
  • Compassionate
  • Creative
  • Emotional
  • Empathic
  • Instinctual
  • Intuitive
  • Nurturing
  • Receptive

Yang: Masculine Energy

Masculine energy can be thought of in terms of the following characteristics:

  • Analytical
  • Assertive
  • Competitive
  • Logical & Linear
  • Focused
  • Goal orientated
  • Objective
  • Passionate
  • Protective

Creating Balance Of Our Yin & Yang Energy

Whether we are male or female, both yin & yang or feminine and masculine energies exist within us. When we live our lives with a balance of our feminine and masculine energy, we live in a state of harmony.

Our ability to create a balance for ourselves lies in both our self-awareness and our inner ability to intentionally access whichever of the energies is appropriate to our situation or circumstance.

Self-awareness begins with an understanding of our own nature or style preference.  Some of us find balance in a 50% masculine and 50% feminine personality. Others may find balance in an 75% masculine and 25% feminine or vice versa.  Reflecting on our own personal blend of masculine and feminine energy empowers us to know when we are out of balance.  It also allows us to embrace both energies as a part of who we are and how we interact with our world.

One way we can develop balance is to practice grounding ourselves.  Being grounded means we are fully present and in a place where we can be intentional and deliberate in our thoughts and actions. Focusing attention on our breath is a great way to get grounded.  Taking a break and going for a walk in nature is another way. Additionally, exercising ramp up our Yang energy or using meditation or silence to still our mind and bring out our Yin energy are other ways to create balanced.

The key is to use these practices on a regular basis in living our life so that as we move into imbalance we easily recognize the shift and correct before we go way out of balance.
